Probiotics and Digestive Health
The term probiotics means the friendly or the healthy bacteria that can help or might promote health in the gastrointestinal tract. The lactic-acid forming probiotic bacteria keep the bad bacteria in check by keeping them at a relatively low balance. When the bad bacteria overgrow, they can cause disease and digestive issues.
Probiotics are mainly found in products that have been fermented like dairy products such as yogurt and kefir. You can also find them in a variety of products where they’ve been added such as acidophilus milk. Supplements are on the market, and there’s a variety to choose from. If you are going to choose a supplement look for a product that contains one billion live cells per dose. If people have more questions about how probiotics might improve their health, they should speak to a local dietitian or visit their local health food store or pharmacy. Local Registered Dietician
